Refractory Bricks
Made of refractory ceramic material, these bricks are used to line furnaces, kilns, fireboxes, incinerators, and heaters. They are designed to withstand high heat. This is because they are fired to a very high temperature in massive industrial furnaces. However, they are also made to have a low thermal conductivity to save energy.
Dense refractory bricks are used in applications with extreme mechanical, chemical, or thermal stresses.
Castable Refractory
Schad uses refractory castables to create the monolithic linings within furnaces and kilns. There are several sub-categories of castables: conventional, low iron, low cement, and insulating. Depending on the material and application, they can be cast, pumped, or shotcreted /gunited into place.
Castable refractory cement can also be made from a wide variety of raw materials and refractory metals, including:
- Magnesia
- Andalusite
- Bauxite
- Mullite
- Silica
- Tabular Alumina
- Silicon Carbide
- Alumina
Insulation Board
Ceramic Fiberboard insulation has many uses. It can be used as a backup refractory in these applications:
- furnaces
- forges
- industrial processing machines
- ovens
It can also be used to:
- back up brick castables
- for flue linings, expansion joints
- conveying molten metal
- for drying lining
Refractory Ceramic Fiber Products
Refractory ceramic fiber is a part of the synthetic vitreous fibers (SVF) family. Refractory ceramic fiber (RCF) is used for insulation in high-temperature industrial applications. It is used in applications such as:
- Expansion Joints
- Brick Panels for Gas Inserts
- Insulating Pellet Burning Stoves
- Fireboxes
- Combustion Chamber Insulation
