MEET MICHAEL PHELPS
As the newest member of the Fab Shop, Michael has earned the honor of Schad “Employee of the Month” for his technical competence, dedication to safety, and quality of workmanship, thus providing outstanding customer service for the company. His commitment to accomplishing any task, motivation to learn new procedures, being a team player, and always keeping safety and quality foremost, are attributes that make Michael a worthy Employee of the Month.
1. How long have you worked with Schad?
I have been employed with Schad since November 2017.
2. What do you like most about working at Schad?
The opportunity to work in three different fields of work in the Fab Shop; i.e., steel fabrication, carpentry and refractory installations.
3. What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is taking on the different types of steel work required. From simple steel repair work to fabricating complex steel forms for casting products, it provides new challenges.
4. How has Schad helped your career development, and what are your future career goals?
The welder/fitter skills that I have learned are applied daily. Future career goals are to continue to build on my base knowledge and expand my skills in the refractory field.
5. How would you describe the Schad culture?
A very friendly culture, with an emphasis on safety and quality workmanship.
6. What is your fondest memory of working at Schad?
Recently I was tasked to fabricate simple, but close tolerance, steel forms for multiple launder castings for current and future projects.
7. What advice do you have for future Schad candidates?
Take on every task and learn from it; communicate, listen, and apply yourself daily.
8. What do you like to do outside of work?
Relaxing, attending events in the community, and spending time with my daughter.
9. What is something unique about you?
I play six different musical instruments… I’m a “One-Man Band!”
10. If you could go to one concert, past or present, which would it be?
The Rolling Stones.
11. If given the chance, who would you like to be for a day?
“The Rock.”
