February Employee of the Month: Tom Blazak

Over the past several years, Tom has been a great mentor to the younger bricklayers, teaching them the proper methods to complete jobs with quality and consistency. He can be trusted to complete any task given to him correctly and on time. It is clear that Tom takes pride in his work and Schad’s Youngstown office is grateful to have him as part of their team!

1. How long have you worked with Schad?
I have worked with Schad for four years.

2. What is your favorite part about your job?
My favorite part of my job is utilizing my bricklayer skills and seeing the results of my work, knowing it is essential for high temperature operations.

3. Who at Schad has taught you the most?
I have learned the most from Jason Snyder.

4. What do you think contributes most to a safe work environment?
The extensive safety training that all of us at Schad have learned and perform on every job.

5. What lessons have you learned while working at Schad?
I have learned how to assess a situation, troubleshooting, and execution of the tasks at hand.

6. What advice do you have for future Schad candidates?
Take the job seriously because the work we perform is important, not only for us at Schad and the customer, but the country as a whole.

7. What do you like to do outside of work?
I like doing stone carvings in my spare time. It is a very rewarding hobby.

8. If you could learn anything, what would it be?
I would like to continue learning about refractory work.

9. If you could go to one concert, past or present, which would it be?
Richard Wagner.

10. If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
Sign the back of the ticket, and call Ryan Mays!
