Charles King has been with Schad Refractory for nearly 17 years and was awarded Employee of the Month in September. Throughout his many years with our team, Charles has become a knowledgeable, organized, mason foreman who can run a crew in all facets of our business, including furnaces, kilns, multi-hearths and incinerators.
This honor came about after Charles was instrumental in installing refractory in a Quench Transition at a petrochemical plant last month. He took the lead and understood the importance of providing a quality installation. We appreciate Charles’s hard working ethic, flexibility and willingness to help the team wherever he can. He’s always willing to travel to job sites and helps us ensure the job is done right.

What do you like most about working at Schad?
Schad always has work for me.
What is your favorite part about your job?
Being a bricklayer, seeing my skills as a tradesman.
How has Schad helped your career development, and what are your future career goals?
I’ve learned a lot from Schad veterans, and will continue to use these skills as a bricklayer.
How would you describe the Schad culture?
There’s a comradery among Schad employees.
What is your fondest memory of working at Schad?
An aluminum furnace project in New York; it was cool to work a job in a new city.
What advice do you have for future Schad candidates?
Always pay attention to what you’re doing and your surroundings.

I’m a handy person and can fix anything.
